Removing keratinized epidermis is one of the most important parts of skin care – both face and body! Unfortunately, many women reach for preparations in drugstores at random, not realizing the great importance of at least the size of the abrasive granules.
However, before we get into a discussion of the proper use of body scrubs, it’s worth explaining the meaning of the name itself – it comes, of course, from the word peel, which means to exfoliate, peel off or peel off. You will also encounter the term for this activity as abrasion, exfoliation, chemabrasion, ablation or chemexfoliation.
Peeling is the best method to help exfoliate and get rid of keratinized skin. We can achieve exfoliation through peels at different levels – depending on the type of preparation. Of course, this parameter should be selected according to the condition of the skin by a qualified specialist. When we use too strong products, we can damage the skin, and in the perspective of using such a preparation for a long period of time, even lead to strong drying and thinning of the skin.
The use of scrubs helps to level skin imperfections, make it more flexible and firm. It is excellent for anti-cellulite therapies, removal of blemishes, it also protects against ingrown hairs after depilation and prevents folliculitis.
Body scrubs, based on the size of the abrasive particles, can be divided into coarse-grained and fine-grained. Coarse-grained sugar or salt scrubs are designed for normal skin and have the greatest abrasive power. Fine-grained scrubs – the most common are salt products – are intended for dry skin and skin prone to broken capillaries.
More and more exfoliating products additionally have oils that leave a light film on the skin, so the skin receives a large dose of hydration and nourishment.
Body scrubbing is best done once a week, on a washed and gently moistened body.
What’s important!!! If you use sponges or gloves on a daily basis – a thorough scrubbing should be done once a month.
When applying the product to the body, we should make circular or longitudinal movements from the lower parts of the body upwards. After the procedure, it is worthwhile to additionally moisturize the skin with lotion or body oil, because by getting rid of keratinized epidermis, the product reaches deeper layers of the skin – so you get better care results.
Earlier I mentioned exfoliating the body before a planned epilation – a very important activity to avoid additional irritation. However, I advise against performing peeling immediately before and after depilation – the break should last at least 24 hours – as the skin is irritated. Meanwhile, between hair removal treatments, regular exfoliation will prevent ingrown hairs.
If you run out of ready-made products, you can make a homemade scrub. In the kitchen you will find a veritable treasure trove of ingredients to create a wonderful body scrub. The most famous example of a homemade scrub is ground coffee beans.
Scrub recipe:
Mix water, coffee and cocoa until smooth. Finally, add olive oil. If you want to get a bigger abrasiveness – you can add brown sugar.
Our body also needs proper treatment, check the labels of cosmetics before you decide on them and remember to use natural products for homemade scrubs! 🙂
