Excessive Perspiration Treatment

One of the most effective methods of treatment for excessive perspiration is the injection of botulinum toxin type A, or Botox, into the skin. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin which acts on the nerve endings in the sweat glands. It blocks the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates sweating. Injection of botulinum toxin is a safe procedure. This method has been used in the treatment of many other diseases for over 20 years.
Using a very fine needle, the toxin is injected into the area affected by excessive sweating. In the case of underarms, there is no need for additional local anaesthesia. The only side effects are a temporary burning sensation and slight bruising at the injection sites. Sometimes excessive sweating may occur temporarily in other areas of the body, but this reaction will subside after a few days. Sweating at the injection site will be stopped within 3 to 7 days and the effect will last 6 to 12 months. After this period, the effect will gradually wear off, which requires another series of injections. Repeat treatments are equally effective, usually giving longer-lasting results.
