Sensitive skin has become such a popular affliction in the 21st century that no one will be surprised if it finds its way as a separate problem into dermatological handbooks. More and more people are dealing with the problem, with no age or gender distinctions. Moreover, it is not only dry skin that we can attribute the tendency to share the fate of high hyper-reactivity in the future, increasingly this issue also affects other types from atopic, to vascular and ending with oily, combination skin with acne. And while it may have once seemed like a fad, now it can give an exemplary patient sleepless nights, in the literal sense of the word. Sensitive skin is attributed to reacting to external factors with frequent burning, itching, redness, a feeling of skin tightening (especially right after washing), a tendency to dryness and flaking.<\/p>\n

The main difficulty of skin hypersensitivity lies in the damage to the protective barrier of the epidermis, which, functioning properly, does not allow deeper penetration of irritants and allergens. Such a barrier for the epidermis is formed by: <\/p>\n

– fatty mantle of the skin<\/p>\n

– Intercellular cement composed of lipids and components of natural moisturizing factor (NMF)<\/p>\n

– keratin of the stratum corneum<\/p>\n

– acidic pH of the epidermis<\/p>\n

And now in a nutshell… Our skin is covered with a hydrolipidic – fatty – water layer (mantle), which is our natural protection against external agents, pathogens, microorganisms and ubiquitous environmental pollutants, the intercellular cement prevents water loss from the skin, and the stratum corneum is responsible for the protective functions of the skin. The pH of the skin, or its reaction, is also given great importance for a reason. The acidic one has the best properties for us. <\/p>\n

When we know how many factors affect the dysfunction of our skin, it does not seem unimportant to choose the right skin care. For how many times has it turned out that this can further exacerbate the negative symptoms of sensitive skin reactivity. The culprits are not only the hated preservatives, fragrances or dyes, exacerbation of symptoms also occurs with the involvement of not enough „pure” water, the use of too many active ingredients, antioxidants or sulfates. To meet the needs of the most demanding patients comes the Swiss brand Selvert thermal with its Allergenium line. It prides itself on the pharmaceutical quality of its proposed products – confirmed by the use of formulas that comply with the American and European pharmacopoeias, hypoallergenic packaging – sealing the product tightly in the container in an untouched state, preventing contact with the air, and the complete elimination of parabens, fragrances and dyes in the cosmetic. <\/p>\n
